Styrenic resin

0198mpl1Advanced styrenic resin reduces production cost
AIM 4800 advanced styrenic resin bridges the performance and cost gap between high-impact polystyrene and ABS resins by offering toughness and high gloss, with easy colorability and predictable processability. These resins have allowed one outdoor power equipment manufacturer, Frigidaire Home Products, to reduce costs after converting from a competitive ABS resin for the production of its new 2500 series of Weed-Eater-brand electric blowers. They feature mold shrinkage values similar to HIPS and ABS. Dow Plastics, PO Box 1206, Midland, MI 48641. 800-441-4369.

0198mpl2Urethane-blown film. Stevens urethane-blown film provides engineers with a very tough, thin membrane for a variety of applications, including laminations, bladders and bandages. The film offers all the performance advantages of thermoplastic polyurethane in thin membranes. Excellent tensile and tear strength, abrasion and puncture resistance, easy fabricability, and resistance to fuels, oils, solvents and other chemicals are among its benefits. JPS Elastomerics Corp, 9 Sullivan Rd, Holyoke, MA 01040. 413-533-8100.

8501A722Polypropylene products. Six new color conce ntrates enhance polypropylene products by offering a translucent, frosted effect. Based on heavy metal-free pigments in a PP carrier resin, these additions to the TEKlite line of concentrates produce the frosted effect uniformly throughout the molded or extruded product. Supplied as pellets or beads, the frosted effect colors include light blue, light green, lime, dark green, yellow and red. Teknor Color Co, 505 Central Ave, Pawtucket, RI 02861. 401-725-8000.

8501A730 Sheath tubing. New lines of multi-layered sheath tubing with a wide variety of inside diameters are available from this company. Walls can be made as thick as 0.002-in. to be used in various applications. The tubing offers kink resistance and excellent coefficient of friction. The tubing is available in a wide range of colors and can be made radiopaque or be bonded with other thermoplastic materials for multiple uses. Putnam Plastics Corp, 130 Louisa Viens Dr, PO Box 779, Dayville, CT 06241. 860-774-1559.

8501A723 Lubricated PBT composite. Hydex 4101L, a lubricated PBT composite, is used to manufacture a family of extruded stock shapes. This self-lubricating material is an ideal replacement for acetal, nylon and PEAT as well as stainless steel, brass, bronze, and aluminum. This is available in rods and slabs for fabrication of components for food processing equipment including cams, filler components, rollers, valves, gears, wear strips and bearings. LNP Engineering Plastics, 475 Creamery Way, Exton, PA
19341. 610-363-4500.

8501A731 Teflon tubing. A wide variety of Teflon tubing unaffected by most chemicals, acids and corrosives is available for applications requiring inert materials. The teflon is nonflammable and withstands temperatures within a -450°F to +450°F range. Available in corrugated, convoluted and plain styles, it can be extruded from TFE, EEP and PFA in standard and custom formulations to achieve varying degress of flexibility and kink resistance. M M Newman Corp, 24 Tioga Way, PO Box 615, Marblehead, MA 01945. 781-631-7100.
