Oil wiper packing. "OT" wiper packing for reciprocating compressors utilizes the naturally occuring sticktion forces, which normally create problems in a valve environment, in order to provide a true non-lube seal in the packing. Traditional oil wiper packings tend to be unreliable, leaking crankcase oil into the distance piece or allowing migration of crankcase oil along the piston rod. But this design uses a larger ring contact area, along with a greater spring force, to make the rings 30 times more conformable than standard designs. The improved conformability allows the rings to be made in two segments instead of three. This design is highly conformable to oval and tapered rods.
