Linear motion system.

0401msr

Consisting of a single-piece, ground bearing core and two recirculating ball bearing circuits with 3.5mm dia. steel balls, the Econo Rail system has two bearing elements mounted on a specially-machined plate to provide precision alignment. The preloaded bearing eliminates play and provides smooth and accurate motion along the track. The double rail guide consists of two parallel, hardened and ground steel shafts, secured in extruded aluminum channels. Hardened and ground spacers inserted into the extrusion at 50mm centers achieve parallelism and accurate center distances. The system maintains parallelism at 0.0005 in. per foot, yet is fabricated without precision machining--reducing the cost. Tusk Direct, Bethel, CT. Free info--Circle 720. 8504_721 Metric cantilever slide. Series SK/SL slides are offered with series CV cylinders, sizes 72-76. Standard features include internal shock pads and provisions for 8mm proximity switches. Options include noise control and position control. PHD Inc, Fort Wayne, IN. Free info--Circle 721. http://www.OneRS.net/104df-721

8504-723Dovetail slides. Where manual feed or general positioning with infrequent movement is involved, the M-series dovetail slide provides precise linear motion and tracking accuracy. The dovetail design allows light to moderate static and dynamic loading. Standard stock includes most popular sizes of base widths and fixed travel lengths, for applications requiring compact size and precise linear motion and positioning. SETCO USA, Cincinnati, OH. Ball slide positioner reduces setup time

* Royal Master Grinders Inc., Oakland, NJ, produces centerless grinders for smoothing the surface finish on guidewires used in surgical procedures. The tips of these wires must be ground to a particular profile so that they can travel easily through blood vessels. Since the wire diameters are ground to thousandths of an inch, with tolerances of ten thousandths of an inch, positioning the wires during the grinding procedure is critical.0401msr3

* Grinding operators ordinarily use manual trial-and-error methods to adjust the position of the wire relative to the grinding wheels--roughly a 10-minute process.. Then, as the surface of the grinding wheels is dressed off, the guide has to be re-adjusted accordingly.

* In their Generation 5 grinding machine, Royal Master replaced the manually adjusted wire guide with a Model 101X ball slide positioning stage from Del-Tron Precision Inc. This device incorporates a spring-loaded micrometer drive that allows precise repeatable adjustments with low friction and zero backlash. The positioner provides accuracy to 0.0005 inch of travel and repeatability of 0.0001 inch. Its positive locking capability, consisting of a steel shim and extended micrometer bracket secured to the side of the stage carriage, allows the user to positively lock the position of the carriage during use.8504-727-2

* Using this single-axis positioner, the grinding operator uses a computer to enter the appropriate distance. The positioner automatically moves the guide to that exact location within 15 seconds. Other 101X positioners are used in the feeding system to the grinder. Additional applications include measuring instruments and optical assemblies, where light and medium loads require gauging or positioning. (Ironically, Deltron uses Royal Master's grinders to finish the eight shafts used in Deltron's positioning stage.)
