Motion INNOVATIONS
Planetary gearheads. ServoFit precision
planetary gearheads are readily available with output torques from 442 to 9,735 in. lbs
and are rated for input speeds of 4,000 RPM for continuous operation, and up to 6,000 RPM
for cyclic-duty operation. There are five stock case sizes available with 12 exact ratios
from 3:1 to 100:1. A special noise dampening gearcase design keeps sound levels as low as
60 dB @ 3,000 RPM. Stober Drives Inc, 1781 Downing Dr, Maysville, KY 41056.

Encoder. The RJS series of dual-shaft, jog
shuttle encoders allows independent controlling of incremental and absolute functions from
a single unit. The RJS series' inner shaft (jog part) offers a 360° endless total
rotational angle. Its rotational torque is 0.70 to 10mNm. The spring-loaded outer shaft
has a 160° rotational angle with return-to-center function. The jog shuttle encoder has a
switch rating of 5VDC @ 10mA. Noble USA Inc, 5450 Meadowbrook Industrial Ct,
Rolling Meadows, IL 60008. 847-364-6038. Circle 561.
Motion controller. The DMC-2000 series is
available in 1- through 8-axis formats, which enables control of both step and servo
motors on any combination of axes. The DMC-2000 provides the user with a variety of
communication options including USB, RS232, RS422 and RS485 up to 115K baud. Non-volatile
memory for application programs, variables and arrays permits operation without a host
computer. Galil Motion Control, 203 Ravendale Dr, Mountain View, CA 94043.

Spherical bearings. Suitable for such
industrial applications as off-highway vehicles, agricultural equipment, mining and
logging equipment, packaging and textile equipment, and robotics, these spherical plain
bearings are available in standard industrial bore sizes from 1/2- to 12-in. as well as
metric sizes from 4mm to 300mm. Five basic types of standard radial bearings are offered,
while custom sizes are available upon special request. AST Bearings, 115
Main Rd, Montville, NJ 07045-9299. 800-526-1250. Circle 563.
Flat encoder. The FM700 hollow-shaft encoder is
27mm long (31mm with dust cover), and provides up to 2048 cycles per revolution. It
operates in harsh environments including high shock, vibration, oil, moisture and other
contaminants. The supply voltage is 5.0 VDC with an operational temperature range of -30
to 90°C. The FM700 is automatically aligned and accommodates up to 1.0mm (0.039 in.) of
shaft end play. Admotec Inc, 85 Mechanic St, Lebanon, NH 03766-1500.

Parallel grippers. EGP grippers are ideal for
handling small parts in confined areas when the preferred power source is 24 VDC. Units
are double acting for internal or external gripping applications. They are available in 2
jaw styles, 2 jaw travels, and with mounting options on three sides of the gripper for
maximum versatility. Optional proximity or Hall effect switches are available for
indication of jaw position and integration with the system interface module. PHD
Inc, PO Box 9070, Fort Wayne, IN 46899. 219-747-6151. Circle 565.
Motor feedback system. The Sincos line was
developed for the high-end drive market, particularly for applications requiring a C-axis
for high accuracy. Sincos provides multi-turn absolute feedback accuracy to ±5 arc
seconds, resulting in drive system accuracy to ±30 arc seconds or less. Single-turn or
multi-turn absolute position information (to 4096 turns) over an RS485 link is provided,
as is separate feedback for the velocity and position servo loops. Stegmann,
7496 Webster St, PO Box 13596, Dayton, OH 45413. 937-454-1956. Circle 566.
Shaft collars. These collars feature custom
configurations including hex, square, metric, radial, keyed and threaded bores; drilled
and tapped face holes; and milled ODs. Machined with tolerances to 0.0005-in. if required,
they are available in one- or two-piece clamp type and set screw styles and can
incorporate a variety of grooves and hinges. They are available in a variety of metals,
alloys and engineered plastics. Stafford Manufacturing Co, PO Box 2370,
Woburn, MA 01888. 978-657-8000. Circle 567.
LVDT controller. The MP1000/2000 LVDT
readout/controller features enhanced speed and, on the MP2000 version, a simultaneous dual
channel display. It also features a 16-bit analog-to-digital converter. The
readout/controller is an ideal fit for LVDT-based weighing systems, RS-232 data collection
for SPC purposes and roller gap control. Other applications include concentricity gages,
tank level control and part classification. Lucas Control Systems, 1000
Lucas Way, Hampton, VA 23666. 800-745-8008. Circle 570.
Rotary actuator system. The Compacta is an
electric rotary actuator system that is smaller and more compact compared to conventional
gear motors, which makes it easier to mount. It offers built-in limit switches, low
weight, a wide range of gear ratios and many standard options that permit a fully
customized unit to be made from standard stock parts. Morat Inc, 1967 Main
St, North Reading, MA 01964. 978-664-6800. Circle 571.
Air bearing platform. The XY ABS-10 assembly
offers a low profile and can be mounted on a granite or Anocast composite base. It is
available in travels from 150mm to 1000mm. Excellent repeatability of flatness (¾0.1µm)
makes it ideal for applications such as inspection, surface mapping and CMM. Accurate
position feedback is provided by an optical encoder with resolution to 0.02µm, for both
point-to-point and constant velocity measurements. Anorad Corp, 110 Oser
Ave, Hauppauge, NY 11788. 516-231-1995. Circle 568.
Optical
encoder. This two-channel quadrature incremental optical encoder is ideal for motion
detection in printers, plotters, tape drives, positioning tables, automatic handlers and
other motion-control applications constrained in space and cost. Supplied in a 11mm
diameter package, the HEDR-5300 encoder features a self-aligning mounting boss and a
resolution of 160 counts per revolution. Hewlett-Packard Co, 3000 Hanover
St, Palo Alto, CA 94304. 800-537-7715. Circle 569.
