Motion INNOVATIONS
MOTORS & DRIVES (page 2)
Efficient motors. This company offers a line of
industrial AC and DC electric motors, ranging from 1/50 through 800 HP. Among these, the
Standard-E motors are designed to meet the efficiency of the Energy Policy Act, while the
Super-E motors offer some of the highest efficiencies in the industry. A line of linear
motors now rounds out the product line of servo and vector motors and controls, and
advanced motion control programming language and software. Baldor Motors and Drives,

Motion subsystem. The miniature 5 phase CSK
system consists of a size 17 hybrid step motor, a low backlash gearhead, and a compact 24
VDC board level drive. The three motors of the system provide shaft torques ranging from
18 to 34 oz-in.. Low shaft vibration and high accuracy operation is achieved with step
motor resolutions of 0.72 degrees per step. The drive includes a heat sink and develops
0.75 amps per phase. Oriental Motor USA, 2510 W 237th St, Suite 102,
Torrance, CA 90505. 800-406-7484. Circle 546.
Brushless servo motors. The Hercules series is
a moving-coil design based on an ironless principle, that incurs zero cogging. They can be
driven in sine-wave or six step mode. These motors have built-in cooling to operate with
the same efficiency as motors that are air- or water-cooled, eliminating the need for
hoses. They have a continuous force up to 38 lbs, stack end to end and come in a range of
forces and voltages. MFM Technology, 200 Thirteenth Ave, Ronkonkoma, NY

Microstepping system. The SmartStep features up
to 8 amps of motor current, making it compatible with standard and enhanced 23 frame to 42
frame step motors. It also has 60K of flash memory (up to 400 programs standard) which
enables rapid reconfigurations, a high speed registration input, a multi-tasking function
between motion control and I/O operations, 120 VAC standard operation and yields a power
density of 17 w/in3. Industrial Devices Corporation, 64 Digital

Brushless DC motors. The DIF23 series of
brushless DC motors features a finned housing for improved heat dissipation. They are
available in four standard frame lengths of 1.3-, 1.6-, 1.9- and 2.2-in.. Typical
operating speeds range from 4,000 to 20,000 RPM. Continuous stall torque ratings range
from 8 to 32 oz-in., while peak torques range from 8 to 80 oz-in. Other torques and
operating speeds are also available in modified configuration. BEI Sensors &
Systems, 804-A Rancheros Dr, San Marcos, CA 92069-3009. 800-572-7560. Circle

Permanent
magnet motors. The 8000 series of splashproof motors feature a NEMA C face with base,
and a USDA approved baked enamel paint. This rugged DC motor also incorporates a stainless
steel shaft and shaft seals, with treated and sealed internal surfaces. Additional
features include double-sealed ball bearings. The motor is BISSC rated, and is designed
for continuous duty operation in harsh environments. Graham, PO Box 23880,
Milwaukee, WI 53223. 414-355-8800. Circle 552.
Gear drive. The Quantis In-Line Helical
gearmotor and reducer deliver efficiency ratings of up to 97 percent. Output torque
ratings are up to 14,870 lbs-in., with input power ranges from 1/4 to 20 HP. The unit is
available in four sizes, in three housing configurations. Two-stage extended ratios of up
to 50:1, and three-stage ranges up to 300:1, are available. Quantis is dimensionally
interchangeable with other brands. Rockwell Automation Power Systems, PO Box

Driver and controller board. The DCB-25 is a
small motor combined with the credit-card sized DCB. It includes a microprocessor, memory,
serial command, input and 1/4-amp unipolar drivers. Programming and application design is
further simplified with the DCB's repertoire of over 30 robust motion commands. The
built-in user sequence feature permits special switching. The user sequences include full,
half and wave drives. Advanced Micro Systems Inc, 2 Townsend West, Nashua,
NH 03063-1277. 603-882-1447. Circle 554.
Custom winding program. This program offers
flexibility when specifying DC motors. Customers may choose a motor featuring speed and
torque requirements perfectly matched to their application. In addition to the four
standard catalog windings available for each motor line (12, 19, 24 and 30.3V) and
noncatalog standard windings ranging from 6 to 90V, custom DC motor windings in a variety
of wire gauges are available. Pittman, 343 Godshall Dr, Harleysville, PA

Synchronous drives. Generating 50% more
horsepower, the RPP-Plus drives allow users to install more efficient power transmission
systems at lower cost. The RPP-Plus belt boosts torque transmission, improves reliability
and lowers interference for quiet operation. The belt's tensile members are chemically
treated fiberglass cords that ensure superior length stability, flexibility and tensile
strength for shock loads. TB Wood's Inc, 440 N Fifth Ave, Chambersburg, PA
