Materials...films & coatings (continued)
Polyurethane elastomer. The Ultra-Thane 5200 series is a two
component, low viscosity, fast cure polyurethane/polyurea elastomer with an 80 Shore A.
This coating has been specifically designed for the protection of soft foam and other
flexible surfaces requiring a high tear resistant membrane. This coating is tailored for
fast production schedules of molded, flexible parts in an open or closed environment. Futura
Coatings, 9200 Latty Ave, St Louis, MO 63042. 314-521-4100. Circle 673.
Dielectric coating. Coating 116-20 is a screen-printable, solvent resistant,
flexible, ultraviolet curable, dielectric coating. It is used as a protective, insulating
layer over, or between, polymer thick film conductive inks in the manufacture of membrane
switches and flex circuits. It has a dielectric strength of 365V/mil, and a specific
gravity of 1.06. The product is specifically designed for use in crossovers with many
electrically conductive inks. Some applications for 116-20 include membrane switches, flex
circuits and touch screens. The coating has a shelf life of 6 months at 25°C. CMI,

Aluminum coating. Al-Coat is a dense, non-magnetic,
high-chromium-alloy composition coating developed for use on aluminum. Its extremely hard,
Rc72 surface provides an unusual combination of bearing-type properties, low frictional
coefficients, longer wearlife and excellent corrosion protection. The coating is a
non-reflective matte that is always smooth, continuous in appearance and thickness and
free from blisters, pits, nodules, porosity and edge build-up. Electrolizing Inc,

Sulfuric anodizing process. This company has introduced a new
service, MetaBrite, for diecast and sandcast aluminum parts. MetaBrite is an
electrical-mechanical process that provides a smooth finish which accepts color dyes more
readily and provides a smooth cosmetic appearance similar to that of a plastic component.
The finish provides good corrosion resistance. Fort Wayne Anodizing, 2535

Thermally reflective coating. Quartz-Coat 850 is a high
temperature glass-ceramic coating used as a reflective coating on quartz radiant infrared
heaters to improve response time. It is applied easily using an air brush spray system.
Curing is accomplished by setting at room temperature for 30 minutes, then heating to
1600°F for 30-60 minutes. It is odorless and water-rinsable, and contains no volatile
organic compounds. Aremco Products Inc, PO Box 517, 707-B Executive Blvd,
Valley Cottage, NY 10989. 914-268-0039. http://www.aremco.com

High MVT films. The Transport line of films are manufactured
using a process which is free of contaminants to assure proper lamination to other fabric
or composite webs without compromising their properties. Soft and drapable, these
monolithic high vapor transmission films are available in thicknesses down to 6µ.
Supplied on rolls, they come in standard, fire-retardant, and static-dissipative types.
Swell resistance to water, and a 200°C melting point are standard features. Omniflex,
64 Adams Rd, PO Box 1167, Greenfield, MA 01302. Circle 672.
Fiber optic coating service. This company produces antireflection (AR) coatings
directly on the ends of customer-furnished optical fibers. AR coatings are useful in
deducing reflection losses whenever there is an air gap between the fiber end and the next
component, such as in many wavelength division multiplexing systems. The coatings are
produced using the company's MicroDyn sputtering process. Deposition Sciences Inc,
386 Tesconi Ct, Santa Rosa, CA 95401. 707-573-6742. Circle 678.
Thin coating process. This coating process improves the performance of rubber
and elastomeric components. Benefits include increased lubricity, improved moisture and
chemical resistance, and surface consolidation for effective particle tie-down. Thin,
transparent Parylene does not compromise the elasticity or durometer values of rubber
parts. Specialty Coating Systems, 5707 W Minnesota St, Indianapolis, IN
