The S-8460 is a PWM control switching regulator controller consisting of an automatic-selection control circuit for step-up and step-down. Using one coil instead of two — as in other, similar devices — allows for a reduction in external components and board space. An N-channel power MOS configuration for external switches adds to the unit’s high-efficiency and low-ripple output. Other features include a reference voltage source, an oscillation circuit and an error amplifier. The variable output voltage ranges from 2.5 to 6V, with a wide input range of 2.2 to 18V. Oscillation frequency is 300 kHz. Applications include single-cell lithium-ion devices such as PDAs, cell phones, notebook PCs, and power supply modules that require a battery and adapter.
