Potting compounds and encapsulants
- Superior flexibility
- Environmentalresistance
Black potting compound (inside)

This full range of epoxy and urethane potting compounds and encapsulants
are available in low-shrink and non-shrink formulations. They cure quickly
at room temperature with minimal air entrapment, and are ideal for protecting
electronics, wiring and other components subject to damage from moisture,
temperature extremes or cycling, or shock and vibration. Specifically, Flexane
compounds are castable, non-shrinking, 2-component liquid urethanes that
are easily mixed and poured, and cure at room temperature. Syon epoxy compounds
include both black and clear encapsulants; electrically and thermally conductive
potting compounds; and high-density, high-temperature potting compounds.

Packaging films. This company introduces the first four grades
of its Inflex linear low density polyethylene packaging film line, which
uses Topas cyclic olefin copolymer from Ticona to improve stiffnesss, clarity,
sealing behavior and slip. The four sealant-layer blends have been shown
to raise line speeds, reduce rejects and allow for thinner sealant layers.

Epoxy film
adhesive. PF4010 can bond materials with different coefficients of thermal
expansion, as it is able to withstand the stresses generated when these
materials are subject to heat. Adhesive allows tough, thermal management.

Water reducible
enamel. KEM AQUA 400 is a high quality, air dry water reducible alkyd
enamel ideal for the off-road equipment and general metal markets. Its attributes
include sharp high gloss, excellent corrosion resistance, adhesion and flexibility,
as well as very good color and gloss retention. It dries overnight to a
hard, durable finish that provides one coat corrosion protection and resistance
to diesel fuel and motor oil. Sherwin-Williams, Cleveland,

Cable Coating
- restores integrity of aging cable
- extends operating life
A major Midwestern auto manufacturer estimates that it has saved $850,000
through the use of a silicone sealant to re-coat failing PVC-jacketed electrical
cable, preventing the need to replace approximately 15,000 linear feet of
the company's medium-voltage wiring at its facility.
700 Industrial Grade Silicone Sealant is a caulking material that was
used to coat directly over the dry, cracking PC cable jacketing. The result
was renewed cable life and protection that is expected to last 20 years
or more, at a fraction of the cost to replace the old cable.
Applied directly over the old PVC coating, the 1-part sealant cures on
exposure to water vapor in the air. The material forms a tack-free skin
within 15 minutes at 77°F and 50% relative humidity. The fully cured
sealant exhibits good resistance to weathering and extreme temperatures,
retaining its elastomeric properties over a temperature range from -76°
to 350°F in continuous use, and up to 400°F for intermittent use.
Unlike most organic sealants and cable coatings, the silicone formulation
exhibits excellent resistance to the environmental stresses which break
down polymers such as PVC. Silicone sealants are not significantly affected
by UV radiation, ozone, rain, snow or extreme temperatures. They maintain
flexibility, allowing them to withstand thermal cycling over their typical
outdoor lifespan of more than 20 years.
The versatile sealant has many applications, and is recognized under
UL QMFZ2, as well as the National Sanitation Foundation List 51 for direct
food contact applications, as well as incidental food contact. It is not
intended for medical or underwater applications. The sealant is available
in a variety of colors, and is supplied in 3-oz. tubes, 10.3-oz. cartridges,
4.5-gal. pails and 52-gal. drums.
