Linear motor actuators

  • faster than ball screw

  • greater accuracy than belt drive

Using a high-power brushless linear servomotor allows the LMA series to provide a no-load acceleration of 3g and a top speed of 3 m/s, for increased throughput over other actuator systems. Feedback is provided by a noncontact linear encoder, mounted closely to the work surface to reduce accuracy problems associated with pitch, roll and yaw. Resolution options for the encoder range from 0.1 to 1.0 µm, and repeatability is ±5µm over the length of travel. An OEM version allows the user to eliminate or modify different characteristics of the actuator. Force outputs offered range from 32 to 276 N, and a counterbalance is available for vertical installations. Suggested applications include pick-and-place machines, gantry axes, shuttle stages, assembly machines, or general-purpose positioning systems.
