Mechanical . . . MOTORS & DRIVES
- Reduced wiring
- Single package saves space
Unitized DC motor and control.
A series of brushless DC motor products has been introduced. The INTEGRAmotor
integrated control circuit simplifies installation and minimizes any EMI problems. The
single plug-in connector for power and logic reduces wiring cost and design time. There
are inputs for run, brake, speed and direction, and the motor is current-limited against
overloads. Tach output is 12 pulse/revolution, and dynamic braking provides quick stops.
The motors are offered in direct drive (shown), parallel shaft with an integral gear
reducer, or right angle output through a worm gear reducer. The two basic direct drive
motors are offered as 1/16 or 1/8 HP output, with a speed range of 100 to 2500 rpm. Bodine

Repackaged integrated servo. The latest of the SmartMotor
series moves the control board from the end of the motor and onto the top, for a very
compact package. The company also introduced the SM2315 device at a cost low enough to
compete with many stepper systems. The package has a patented barrier material to protect
the electronics from the motor's heat, and can deliver up to 30 oz-in. of continuous
torque and speeds up to 10,000 RPM. Animatics Corp, Santa Clara, CA. http://www.1rs.com/011df-422

Small AC servos. The slim and cylindrical "W" series
motors have rated speed up to 3000 RPM and maximum speeds of up to 5000 RPM, with a range
of 30W to 5.5 kW. An integrated keypad with a 5-digit display on the drive can be used for
programming parameters and monitoring drive status and alarms. Built-in auto-tuning
provides fast start-ups and installations, and high resolution feedback allows for smooth
control at low RPM. Omron Electronics Inc, Schaumburg, IL. http://www.1rs.com/011df-423

Sine encoder option on servomotor. The PLATINUM DDL (Direct
Drive Linear) line of frameless, permanent magnet brushless servomotors are now offered
with a high-resolution sine encoder option. This type of encoder improves velocity control
and repeatability, increases system stiffness, and reduces position dither. It also
increases feedback accuracy to allow accurate positioning of the load. The motors have
continuous torque ratings from 13.6 to 3513.0 lb/ft. Kollmorgen, Radford,
VA.

CAM controller. Designed for use with steppers and digital
input servo motors, the ECM010-Electronic CAM Controller increases the flexibility of
motion control systems. The compact single axis controller can be connected to 15 other
controllers to coordinate complex multi-axis manufacturing and testing operations. The
controller has onboard data storage for 16 CAM patterns, as well as programs and system
parameters. NYDEN Corp, San Jose, CA. http://www.1rs.com/011df-425

Space-rated motors. Two-phase hybrid stepper motors,
three-phase brushless motors, feedback devices and mechanical assemblies have been
developed by this company to suit requirements for missions into outer space . The
components are designed to tolerate vacuums of 10-8 to 10-12 torr,
launch vibrations, radiation and ionized particles, load changes from 25+ G's during
launch to orbital weightlessness, thermal shock and cryogenic temperatures. Empire

Control chip. The PCL-6045 motion control chip offers 4-axis
independent control in a 176-pin QFP. It supports linear or circulation interpolation, or
a combination of the two. Positioning and speed parameters can be changed on the fly, and
the chip also includes damping oscillation control, a pre-buffer for subsequent profile,
automatic correction of operating speed, backlash correction, and out-of-step detection.
Maximum output speed is 6.5 Mpps. Nippon Pulse Motor Co, Ltd, Radford, VA.

Hybrid stepping motors. Two 1.8 deg full-step angle stepping
motors are designed for use in robotics, production line machinery, and other
instrumentation applications. Identified as the D34D62-424 Series, both 108mm dia., 8-lead
motors operate at 200 steps per revolution and provide a holding torque of 781 oz-in. They
can be run clockwise or counter-clockwise, depending on input, and single or double shafts
may be specified. Stock Drive Products, New Hyde Park, NY. http://www.1rs.com/011df-428

Multiplexing system. A combination of advanced hardware and
software provide control of multiple motors from a single variable frequency drive. The
system can be applied to multi-pump or multi-fan arrays where system flow or pressure can
be maintained by a combination of constant and variable speed operation. By switching
different AC motors between VFD and line power as loads change, the Multiplexing System
reduces wear on pumps and motors. MagneTek Drives & Systems, New Berlin,
