Hard metal services
Multiple slots as small as 0.010-in. can be ground in small diameter hardened tool steel, tungsten carbide and pure tungsten to provide up to quadruple the cooling surface area of components subjected to high temperatures. Metal tubing, rod and wire can have controlled lengths to tolerances of 5 microns, and diameters can be ground to tolerances of 0.000025 in. Additional operations include profile and centerless grinding of 0.003- to 1-in.; forming and machining capabilities provide pointing, bending and angle cutting. Short parts can be lapped or double-disc ground to meet tolerance and flatness requirements. A proprietary miniature tungsten tumbling media can polish difficult-to-reach locations on complex components. Ultrasonic cleaning and clean room inspection facilities provide guaranteed particle contamination testing. Metal Cutting Corp, Cedar Grove, NJ.  www.rsleads.com/211df-207

Elastomer
Designed for high-performance products and continuous cure extrusion applications, Blended 565 EPDM grade polymer alternative is manufactured with tightly controlled, repeatable ethylene and ENB proportions. The easily colored grade is intended for hose, tube and cover stock, profiles, construction profiles, window gaskets, weather stripping and similar molded goods. Goldsmith & Eggleton Inc, Wadsworth, OH.  www.rsleads.com/211-208

Precolored TPV
Designed to ease installation and resist dirt, NexPrene series 1500A low coefficient of friction TPV is intended for seals and gaskets. The fully vulcanized EPDM/polpropylene-based compounds offer tight seals with long-term resistance to compression set and UV stability. Compared to polychloroprene rubber and EPDM, this precolored material claims shorter, more flexible processing, reduced scrap and recyclability. Thermoplastic Rubber Systems Inc, Shirley, MA.  www.rsleads.com/211-209

Conductive silicones
Bisco EC-2000 series conductive silicones offer an electrically conductive EMI/RFI shielding material in wide, continuous rolls. The thin, soft materials feature compression-set resistance, high shielding effectiveness, and easy processing to increase yields. Other features of the nickel-graphite filled material include good mechanical sealing, and flame- and corrosion-resistance. Rogers Corp, Rogers, CT.  www.rsleads.com/211-210

Stainless alloy
Project 70+ stainless machining alloys provide parts-makers with lot-to-lot consistency, fast machining speeds, high part output and low tool wear. The series includes 303, 304/304L, 316/316L, 416, Custom 630 and 15Cr-5Ni stainless grades. The alloys are offered in sizes ranging from 0.125- to 3.25-in. in standard increments. Carpenter Technology Corp, Reading, PA.  www.rsleads.com/211-211

Polymer & rubber CD
Available on free CD, this company’s Rubber Compound Selection Guide describes the most popular base polymers along with durometer range, useful temperature range, useful properties, typical applications and cost. The selection chart includes a section for those applications for which the polymers are not recommended. Specific performance problems are addressed. Rubber Industries Inc, Shakopee, MN.  www.rsleads.com/211-212

Solder paste
SynTECH no-clean synthetic solder paste is made with poly adducts, yielding high throughput with low scrap and rework, lot-to-lot consistency, wide process windows (12- to 18-hour stencil life, 18- to 24-hour tack time). No refrigeration is necessary and the ICT-friendly material is compatible with organic solderability preservatives. Amtech Inc, Branford, CT.  www.rsleads.com/211-213

Anti-static polymer
Zylar 535 formulation offers a balance of clarity, toughness, and anti-static properties to reduce dust accumulation. Applications include consumer electronics, business machines and floor care appliances. This family of resins offers good color consistency with few black specks. It requires low processing temperatures and drying requirements, with a lower specific gravity than most comparable grades. NOVA Chemicals Corp, Moon Twp, PA.  www.rsleads.com/211-214

Structural aesthetic composites
Offering a combination of high-tensile strength and flexural modulus, good impact, light- and dark-colorability, and a high-quality Class B1 matte surface finish, this series of Verton nylon 6 long glass fiber reinforced composites is designed for aesthetic applications. Glass fiber content ranges from 30% to 50%. The composite is suited for standard injection molding and gas-assisted molding. LNP Engineering Plastics, Exton, PA.  www.rsleads.com/211-215

Interface materials
Sarcon SF-Nd phase change interface materials are designed for use in high performance microprocessors requiring minimal thermal resistance for maximum heat sink performance and processor reliability. Thermal resistance is 0.015ºC-in2/W while thermal conductivity is 2.0 W/m-K. Phase change temperature is about 60ºC, while volume resistivity is 1.6E4 MO-m Fujipoly America Corp, Carteret, NJ.  www.rsleads.com/211-216

Website
This company’s website describes many engineered composite products, molding capabilities and materials. Various application-specific sections include complete technical specifications, with UL- and ASTM-testing methods where applicable, dimensions and downloadable data sheets. Each section provides a glossary of engineered composite terms. Glastic Corp, Cleveland, OH.  www.rsleads.com/211-217

Thermoplastic elastomers
TPSiV thermoplastic silicone vulcanizates combine the high temperature elastomeric performance of silicone rubber with the melt reprocessability and chemical resistance of engineering thermoplastics. Cost-effectiveness is the result of melt processability, reduced total materials, consumption and recyclability. Hardness ranges from 50 Shore A to 60 Shore D, and the white material is colorable and printable. Multibase, St Laurent du Pont, France.  www.rsleads.com/211-218

Reworkable phase change material
Specifically intended for use between “lidded” microprocessors and heat sink assemblies, Powerstrate 51R reworkable phase change thermal interface material removes easily without degradation of thermal performance, releasing from either or both surfaces. Thermal impedance is 0.008ºC-in/W and phase change threshold is 51ºC. Henkel Loctite Corp, Laguna Hills, CA.  www.rsleads.com/211-219

Color and special effects
Fantasia color and special effects program includes Aura color infusion, Leda color effect options for engineering resins, Imagio coatings with ‘see-and-feel’ finishes, Faria film-insert molding for graphics incorporation (using Makrofol polycarbonate films, Bayfol PC/PBT films and Dureflex TPU films), and Milena colors for optical media. Bayer Plastics, Pittsburgh, PA.  www.rsleads.com/211-220

Soft TPE
Versaflex CL 2003 series injection moldable thermoplastic elastomer is a gel-like grade that is water clear and carries a softness of 30 Shore 00 with a non-oily, non-tacky feel. The material is suited for applications requiring a gel-like feel or cushioning properties, and it can be overmolded onto both fabric and sheet or encapsulated (for gel applications).
