EL lamp drivers

  • higher luminance driver

  • audible noise reduction

Seen at this year’s Electronica trade show in Munich was this company’s two high-power electroluminescent (EL) lamp drivers. With the D305A driver as part of a high-brightness lamp system, designers can attain up to five times the luminance of traditional lighting systems for PDAs and other wireless electronic devices. The D305 can drive EL lamps as large as 100 cm2 with very high voltage AC output from 2.5 to 7.0 VDC supply voltages. For lamps as large as 180 cm2, the D306A can convert 2.0 to 16.0 VDC supply input to up to 400V peak-to-peak output. The package of the D306A is a narrow-body SOIC-16 with a heat slug, making it suited to automotive instrument cluster and signage applications. Both drivers have waveshaping programmability for minimizing audible noise. Durel Corp, Chandler, AZ.   www.rsleads.com/212df-119

Low noise photodiodes
The S8745 and S8746 Silicon photodiodes feature low noise and excellent noise equivalent power characteristics. They are well suited for UV to near-IR precision photometry designs such as spectrophotometry and general-purpose optical measurement applications. The devices cover the 190 to 1100 nm spectral response range, in a package integrating a FET input op-amp and a large area Si photodiode. Hamamatsu Corp, Bridgewater, NJ.   www.rsleads.com/212df-120

Bright LEDs
The transparent substrate material used in the Ultra-Bright AlInGaP TS series produces 30% more illumination over conventional LEDs, making them suited for instruments and outdoor displays that must function in ambient lighting situations. Available in red or amber, the LEDs can be specified in surface-mount or thru-hole configurations, and in all industry standard packages. American Bright Optoelectronics Corp, Chino, CA.   www.rsleads.com/212df-121

Panel mount LEDs
The CR series of LEDs has a reflective, nickel-plated brass housing that stands up to tough use and harsh environments for automation control panels, instrumentation and front panel fault indicators. Equipped with a neoprene gasket/washer, the chrome-finish units are suitable for use in watertight applications. Built-in resistors permit use in both 5 to 60 VDC and 120 VAC circuits. Wilbrecht Electronics Inc, St Paul, MN.   www.rsleads.com/212df-122

Pin holders
A complete series of locating pin holders have been made available for single, bi-level and tri-level T-1 LED display applications. Manufactured of black 94-VO rated nylon material, the H-LP Series Holders provide extra PCB retention and uniform elevation during processing and handling, making them suited to high-shock and vibration environments as found in automotive and aerospace applications. BivarOpto, Irvine, CA.   www.rsleads.com/212df-123

LCD module
The small STN LCD module provides compliment to the fully programmable IS Series Smartswitch. The display features a wide, high-contrast viewing area of 13.9 mm x 10.6 mm, with a 36 x 24 pixel resolution to maximize clarity. This module works well in 1U rack mount units where 7-segment displays and LED matrices do not provide sufficient information. NKK Switches, Scottsdale, AZ.   www.rsleads.com/212df-124

Display LEDs
These MR16-style LED lamps combine InGaAlP and SiC/GaN technologies with a light-optimizing design for a package that can provide architects, entertainment designers and other lighting professionals an alternative for ornamental illumination. CCF inverter
The DMD Series DC-AC inverter provides wide-range dimming for LCDs in the 15- to 18-in. diagonal size that are backlit by four cold cathode fluorescent lamps. Features include an open-frame construction that outputs up to 23W, integrated input and output connectors, and onboard PWM dimming that can be externally controlled by an analog signal. Endicott Research Group, Endicott, NY.   www.rsleads.com/212df-126

LCD mounting
Designed as a faster method for mounting the company’s Express Line of industrial LCDs, this speed clip device allows most monitors to mount in seconds. The need to locate and drill mounting holes is eliminated. Express Line monitors, offered in sizes of 12-, 15-, 17- and 18-in., are arm-mountable and can be equipped with resistive, capacitive or SAW touch screens. Nortech Engineering Inc, Hopedale, MA.   www.rsleads.com/212df-127

Blue LEDs
Three versions of surface-mount blue LEDs are suited for edge lighting, back lighting and illumination applications. All have low voltage operation for low power consumption (Vf = 3.15V @ 5 mA) and a narrow forward voltage range (2.75 to 3.15V) for better color and brightness consistency. The QTLP601C-EB has a low-profile design, while the QTLP610C-EB and QTLP611C-EB have right-angle configurations. Fairchild Semiconductor, San Jose, CA.   www.rsleads.com/212df-128

LCD touch screens
Resistant to scratches, the EW32F92FLW and EW32F92FEW LCDs have a surface film that also eliminates glare. Luminous intensity for this display is 10 cd/m2, and they withstand vibration to 1.2G when not operating. The displays can be ordered in either a film or film/glass configuration. Other versions are offered in FSTN positive black or white, or STN positive blue. Emerging Display Technologies Corp, Irvine, CA.   www.rsleads.com/212df-130

Wide angle LED
The 1105CK Super Wide Angle SMT LED provides uniform light distribution with a viewing angle of 180 degrees. The color initially offered is yellow-green (572 nm), with yellow, orange and red soon to follow. Luminous intensity is 8.0 mcd @ 10 mA, and forward voltage is 2.1V and 2.8V @ 10 mA. Suggested applications include backlighting for keypads and switches. Stanley Electric Co, Irvine, CA.   www.rsleads.com/212df-131

Ambient light sensor
To reduce overall system power, the TSL2550 sensor converts light intensity to a digital signal output capable of direct SMBus interface. Display screen backlighting can now be adjusted automatically in portable equipment. The device, which operates from a single 2.7 to 5.5V supply, uses an integrating conversion technique to eliminate the effect of flicker from AC lamps for increased stability. TAOS Inc, Plano, TX.   www.rsleads.com/212df-132
