Dial gauge testing in no time at all
With all of the advances in electronics, mechanical measuring devices are indispensable, especially in superior mechanical and plant engineering. In order to always guarantee exact measurements, devices must be tested in certain time intervals, and possibly re-calibrated. One solution is provided by Feinmess Suhl GmbH, a company that has developed the new, fully automated testing device MFP-100.01 BV. Small-drive specialist FAULHABER ensures the necessary high-precision mechanical movement process.

Assembly lines get Human ergonomic modeling
Creating and developing products based on the capabilities and limitations of people is not a new concept. Human Factors (HF) Engineering has proven that every stage of a product lifecycle has a common component — people. DELMIA Human software from Dassault Systemes is being used by Volkswagen AG to ergonomically design its human assembly line functions. The software's prototyping capability provides communication between designers, engineers, and operators to maximize the efficiency and speed of human motion in a manufacturing situation.

Boeing 777 hubcaps battle extremes using PEEK polymer
When Crane Aerospace & Electronics, a major supplier of systems and components for critical aerospace applications, was developing a new tire-pressure monitoring system for the landing gear of Boeing 777 aircraft, it specified VICTREX PEEK polymer for the hubcaps containing the system because of the material's high temperature resistance and high mechanical strength, as well as its chemical resistance to the caustic elements found on the runway.

SolidWorks World 2008: Back to Basics
Parker Ward's show report from the floor

Greetings from SolidWorks World 2008. I'm writing today from dreary and still-beautiful San Diego (50°F and rainy) pumped for three days of DMG files, 3D CAD drawings, and informational security experts that have all been brought together in the hope of expanding the juggernaut that has become the SolidWorks community. This year is the tenth anniversary of SolidWorks, and the software giant is still rolling with upgrades in the effort to perfect the tools for design and physics simulation. However, this year's theme could be described as a "Back to Basics" approach.

Researchers double cell phone memory

Computer engineers at Northwestern University and NEC Laboratories America are the first to do what many thought impossible — they have developed technology that doubles the usable memory on cell phones and other embedded systems without any changes to hardware or applications. The innovation is the result of two years of close collaboration — and some real impressive "Aha!" problem solving.

Wheels: Decreasing VOC emissions, improving employee environments
With issues such as the Ozone Transport Commission (OTC) and the new United States National Emission Standards regulating Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs), keeping up with changing environmental regulations can be a full-time job. This is why YUSA turned to LORD Corporation for help. As both a manufacturer and user of a line of solvent-based, industrial adhesives used to bond rubber to metal, LORD Corporation has provided its well-known Chemlok line of products to YUSA since 1990.
