OEM’s thermoforming line upgraded for totally integrated automation
Having utilized Siemens motors on its machines for many years, Irwin Research & Development asked Siemens to review its thermoforming machine line for a complete overhaul of its control systems. Siemens' controls solution was based on a concept called Totally Integrated Automation (TIA), which provides maximum interoperability for everything from the controller, HMI, and drives to the process control system.

CAD-embedded CFD helps solve drill bit erosion problem
Encore Bits LLC solved a difficult erosion problem in an oilfield drill bit by using FloEFD computational fluid dynamics software (CFD) from Mentor Graphics Mechanical Analysis (formerly Flomerics) to improve flow around the bit. Changes were made in the bit geometry and nozzle configuration that substantially increased its life and enhanced cuttings removal.
