Divided by Hex Micro Plastics, Inc., introduces two new types of Hex nylon spacers: Hex Spacers use M4 self-tapping screws, while Hex Tapped Spacers use M4 machine screws. Both are resistant to vibration, abrasion, and corrosion, and are electrically insulating, non-magnetic, with a high strength to weight ratio. These are available in 8 lengths, from 6mm through 25mm. For free samples, or to order catalog #37 with a complete line of nylon fasteners, please visit Micro Plastics online.
Multi-component supplier makes positive impact
Sometimes off-the-shelf components just won't do. So says Noel Nichols, director of standards and development at Cincinnati Automation & Test in Machesney Park, IL. Under the MAG Cincinnati Automation brand, the company designs and builds a variety of automated assembly and quality testing equipment, primarily for the automotive, truck, and off-highway vehicle markets. Previously, an anti-backup latch used at the end of MAG Cincinnati Automation conveyor systems was sourced at a local machine shop. After realizing they could configure this part and purchase it directly for a savings of both time and money, Cincinnati Automation & Test shifted sourcing on the part to MISUMI. Global Package Race puts major carriers to the test
How hard is it to deliver a package to Ouagadougou? A group from the Supply Chain and Logistics Institute in the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Georgia Tech, one of the most respected logistics programs in the world, puts the major carriers (UPS, FedEx, and DHL) to the test every year with its Great Package Race, a contest to see which carrier can get a package to a very challenging locale the fastest and in the best condition. SuperStructural nylon helps anode fight boat drive corrosion
Mercury Marine has developed an innovative, robust anode for combating corrosion of marine propulsion drives using a SuperStructural grade of DuPont Zytel nylon. The anode is part of a system for protecting metal parts of marine drives against corrosion when boats are docked or moored. Its operating principle is the same as that used for corrosion protection of offshore drilling rigs, bridge platforms, and other high-value constructions. Read the full article

Wheels: Automotive designs dominate NADCA's 2007 International Die Casting Competition
In a year when automakers faced new challenges and fuel prices climbed to new heights, it's not surprising that automotive die castings comprise the majority of winners in the 2007 International Die Casting Competition sponsored by the North American Die Casting Association. The competition is dedicated to demonstrating the versatility, quality, innovation, and cost savings that can be achieved with aluminum, zinc, and magnesium die cast parts. Several winning die cast components can be considered breakthroughs in casting for the auto manufacturing sector because of their reduced weight, a significant factor in automobile engineering.
