Designing for seismic events: Valves
Badger Meter, Inc. of Tulsa, OK, was selected by Atomic Energy of Canada, Ltd., a subcontractor of Societatea Nationala Nucleoelectrica S.A. (SNN) of Romania, to model, test, and produce a set of precision valves for Cernavoda Unit 2, the second nuclear power plant in Cernavoda, Romania. Using Solid Edge to model the complex valve for controlling water temperature and flow and ALGOR to analyze its response to earthquake forces, Badger was able to provide a valve with survivability estimates well within the acceptable range.

Landmark study investigates root causes of profitability gap among North American automotive manufacturers
A landmark study, Automotive Competitive Challenges: Going Beyond Lean, released Oct. 2 found that numerous structural, cultural, and philosophical barriers contribute to an average of $2,400 per vehicle profit disadvantage among the three domestic automakers, Ford Motor Corp., the Chrysler Group, and General Motors Corp., compared to the three Japanese automakers, Honda Motor, Nissan Motor, and Toyota Motor, in North America in 2005.
