Beswick miniature pinch valves are now available for 1/8-in. OD and 1/4-in. OD tubing. The PV series miniature pinch valve is designed to control fluid when it is advantageous to avoid fluid contact with mechanical components and elastomeric seals. Pinch valves achieve fluid control by clamping down on the outside diameter of the tubing in order to limit or stop flow. The PV has a port for pneumatic actuation as well as a manual knurled knob for extra flexibility.

Nitrofreeze® Cryogenic Solutions is providing molders and OEM manufacturers that make injection molded, extrusion molded, and compression molded parts with a rapid, consistent, and cost-effective alternative to hand trimming molding flash. Nitrofreeze cryogenic deflashing is an automated, computer-controlled batch process that removes flash from tens to thousands of molded parts all at the same time. This patented process will not change part tolerances or surface finish, is more consistent than hand trimming, and is safe for medical plastics and medical silicones.

According to Carlicia Layosa at MISUMI, "Linear shafts, posts, and rotary shafts are used when you need to control some type of motion, either linear or rotary, or a combination of the two," but do you know the difference between these options and what applications are best for each?

Gears and gear racks used for transmitting torque and forces within gearboxes are typically made of hardened steel. For many other uses and applications, gears and racks made from plastic are the better choice. These generally require no lubrication and are lighter, quieter, less expensive, and more resistant to corrosion than metal gears. This is why JW Winco has expanded its range with polyamide gears and racks that can transmit high forces and torques. Spur gears EN 7802 and gear racks EN 7822 are made from strong and long-lasting polyamide and are also available in gray or blue for better visual detectability.

Allison's Vehicle Electrification + Environmental Test Center. [Credit: © Allison Transmission]
Allison Transmission, a leading designer and manufacturer of conventional, electric hybrid, and fully electric vehicle propulsion solutions, recently announced the availability of hydrogen fuel cell and compressed natural gas (CNG) testing at its Vehicle Electrification + Environmental Test (VE+ET) Center located on the campus of Allison Transmission's global headquarters in Indianapolis.
Opened in 2020, the 60,000-sq-ft VE+ET Center houses a hot soak chamber, a cold soak chamber, and two chassis dyne-equipped environmental chambers capable of simulating a broad range of duty cycles. Environmental conditions from -54 to 125 F, altitudes up to 18,000 ft, as well as grades and other on-road conditions can be simulated within the facility. A recently added thermal feature simulates solar radiant heat to support HVAC testing.
The two testing chambers can accommodate most commercial on-highway, off-highway, and wheeled defense vehicle applications, in addition to automotive passenger vehicles. Testing is applicable for a wide-range of propulsion systems, including conventional powertrains, alternative fuel, electric hybrid, fully electric, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.
As the demand increases to test and validate larger battery electric vehicles, Allison has extended the test center's Battery Emulation capability to accommodate above 500 kW with a maximum of 900 V DC. This allows for around-the-clock testing without the need to stop and recharge, resulting in more testing completed in a shorter timeframe. Battery emulators are ideal for battery replacement during test, modified state of charge, and/or any additional DC load on vehicles. In addition, the VE+ET Center offers commercial fast-charging capabilities at 150 kW, furthering development in preparation for tomorrow's fleets.
Running on hydrogen power
As part of Allison's goal to support the development and deployment of alternative fuel vehicles that reduce emissions, the company has completed the installation of two phases of hydrogen capabilities:
Allison recently collaborated with one of its OEM partners to complete the successful testing of the first hydrogen fuel cell vehicle at the VE+ET Center. Additional OEMs are scoping fuel cell vehicle testing projects for later this year. The facility now has the capabilities to support external customer test and validation programs for vehicles powered by every major propulsion type, including diesel, gasoline, natural gas, battery electric, and hydrogen fuel cell.
Allison says the facility is the only one of its kind in the Midwest, offering the ability to conduct year-round testing in one centralized location that can replicate the extreme environments to solidify dependable, reliable, repeatable, and secure results. The capabilities of the facility move beyond powertrain innovation, enabling Allison and its partners to bring new and innovative technology and vehicle systems to market faster and more efficiently.
