The new SE is Lamborghini's most powerful and high-performance Urus yet. Equipped with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine combined with a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor, the super SUV cranks out a total of 789 hp at 6,000 rpm and a total torque of 950 Nm. It sprints from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.4 sec. It's a large luxury crossover SUV that seats up to five adults, so there's plenty to enjoy inside too. Top speed is 194 mph.
Urus is not a just-ride-and-look-pretty model. In 2022, the 657-hp Urus Performante with a twin-turbo V8 took a turn on the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb Road and set a new record in the production SUV category, crossing the finish line at 14,115 ft in 10:32.064 and beating the previous 2018 record of 10:49.902.
But that was a while back now, and the Urus has evolved to include the SE, featuring a new 8-speed automatic transmission with torque converter and the ability to switch to a fully electric vehicle and run for 37 miles thanks to the 25.9-kWh battery situated below the load floor, which is pretty far for a supercar hybrid -- at least it could get you out of a pinch. Lamborghini says the hybrid setup equates to an emission reduction figure of 80% total for the car. SE has undergone a complete aerodynamic upshift for maximum efficiency, according to Lamborghini. Fuel economy figures are 20 mpg for gasoline only and 48 mpg when using hybrid gasoline/electric.
Debuting on the Urus SE is the new centrally located longitudinal electric torque vectoring system with an electro-hydraulic multi-plate clutch that distributes driving torque variably and continuously between the front and rear axles. The transfer case works in synergy with the new electronic limited-slip differential installed on the rear axle, giving the vehicle on-demand oversteering to convey the feel of a purebred super sports car. Urus SE can drift with total ease, just like at the wheel of a super sports coupe.
Other main performance features include: 4WD with integrated front differential; a front suspension with multilink layout, semi-active dampers, pneumatic springs, and car-height adjustment system; rear suspension with multilink layout, semi-active dampers, pneumatic springs, and car height-adjustment system; and rear wheel steering. On the tech side, night vision is a cool available feature.
The SE can ride on one of three available P Zero tire options: 21, 22, or 23 in. A 22-in. Scorpion Winter 2 option is also available. The SUV features carbon ceramic brakes on front and rear.
SE is even sportier than its predecessor models. It's got almost a super-fastback squat look. The revised design accents the clean and muscular character of the super SUV, highlighting that true crossover vibe. There's a new floating hood, headlight clusters featuring matrix LED technology, updated bumper and front grille, a new rear diffuser, and a completely redesigned taillamp grille inspired by Lamborghini super sports cars such as the Gallardo.
Other updates include a new rear diffuser and aero lip that work together to increase rear downforce by 35% at high speeds; new underbody air vents and revamped air ducts that improve cooling performance by 15%, and brake cooling that has been enhanced by 30% due to the redesign of the front section and the optimization of the aerodynamic underside.
For driving modes, Strada, Sport, Corsa, Sabbia, Terra, and Neve can be paired with EV, Recharge, Hybrid, and Performance for a total of 11 different combos to get the most out of the hybrid powertrain.
There are lots of add-on carbon fiber accent options for the exterior including the full roof, mirror housings, and B-pillars and side scuttles. Titanium exhaust is a nice available touch too.
Inside, the interior boasts a new version of the Human Machine Interface (HMI) that features a more-than-2-in.-larger screen with a more intuitive interface. There are a lot of buttons, switches, and toggles, though, which contributes to the feeling that one may be commanding a spaceship ready to take on the unkown. Heated and ventilated front seats are standard, and heated rear seats are available. A vast range of customization options are available for customers to enhance the ultra-luxe interior. Leather or bi-color leather everywhere is a solid interior choice, including contrasting stitching. The panoramic sunroof makes the interior seem all the more roomy.
Urus SE starts at $258,000. Learn more at lamborghini.com/en-en/models/urus/urus-se.
