What is STUDROLLER technology? Cross Roller Guides

NB SLIDE WAY cross roller guides use precision rollers to provide stable, non-recirculating linear motions in precision stages, inspection equipment, semiconductor manufacturing, and more. At the heart of all NB cross roller bearings is the STUDROLLER mechanism, which eliminates the cage-creep phenomenon that, over time, can create deviances in cross roller retainer performance. NB cross roller guides equipped with this system are more accurate and better performing than any other comparable products on the market today. High acceleration and faster cycle times are possible in any orientation.

U.S. Air Force aims for cargo shipped anywhere in the world in 90 minutes

Rocket Lab USA, a leader in launch services and space systems, recently announced it will test launch its new medium-lift reusable rocket called Neutron in 2026 for the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory's (AFRL) Rocket Cargo program.

The Rocket Lab test will see if the Neutron rocket and its payload can fulfill the requirements of the AFRL Rocket Cargo program, which focuses on obtaining a leased rocket cargo transportation capability for transporting Department of Defense (DOD) materiel -- up to 100 tons eventually -- to anywhere on the planet within tactical timelines (target = 90 minutes).

The launch contract will see Neutron execute a Rocket Cargo survivability experiment under the AFRL Rocket Experimentation for Global Agile Logistics (REGAL) solicitation, an effort by the Department of Defense to create a rocket-based point-to-point transportation system to quickly and rapidly deliver cargo around the world with commercial launch providers. AFRL's experiment will be launched by Neutron and re-enter Earth's atmosphere in a demonstration of re-entry capability for future REGAL missions.

Rocket Lab will use its Neutron medium-lift reusable launch vehicle, which was originally designed to deploy up to 13,000 kg to low Earth orbit. Neutron is tailored to deploy constellations and national security missions as well as science and exploration payloads in space.

According to AFRL, "Potential mission applications include Special Airlift to deliver equipment needed to quickly restore a loss of mission operations, and humanitarian aid and disaster relief payloads to stricken areas."

AFRL is closely partnered with USTRANSCOM, Space Force Futures & Integration, Air Force Futures, formerly the Air Force Warfighting Integration Capability (AFWIC), and Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC) to assess the trade space of a potential Rocket Cargo capability for global logistics.

Significant progress continues to be made at Neutron's launch pad on Wallops Island, VA, with the site's completion expected this summer.

Production, infrastructure scaling, and both Archimedes engine and full-scale components testing is continuing at pace across Rocket Lab's various production and test facilities in the United States. Neutron's debut remains on track for first launch in the second half of 2025. The 141-ft-tall rocket uses LOX/Methane for propellant.
