Bristol Instruments has released the OM 403UNI Series displays/ controllers, allowing users to monitor two or three simultaneous functions. Thanks to licensing deal, you may soon be able to manufacture your own genuine Liquidmetal parts

Liquidmetal Technologies (LQMT), known for its amorphous alloys and composites used in diverse applications from aerospace to cell phones to golf clubs, has reported delivery of its customized induction melt system, developed to adapt standard plastic injection-molding machines to manufacture Liquidmetal components.

Amorphous alloys are unique materials that are distinguished by their ability to retain a random structure when they solidify, in contrast to the crystalline atomic structure that forms in ordinary metals and alloys. Liquidmetal Technologies is the first company to produce amorphous alloys in commercially viable bulk form, enabling significant improvements in products across a wide array of industries. After extensive revisions and trials with the current Liquidmetal system, Liquidmetal Technologies and Engel Austria GmbH (Engel), a Certified Liquidmetal Partner, have agreed to a configuration that can be commercially supplied and supported by Engel. The Liquidmetal-designed system has been shipped to Engel to be installed as part of a standard injection-molding machine.

This important milestone represents the culmination of many iterations of design, which will now be tested to assure the commercial readiness of this breakthrough manufacturing technology.

What does this mean for manufacturers? It means that current and future licensees of LQMT's tightly guarded technology may soon be able to purchase a Liquidmetal injection-molding machine from Engel to manufacture Liquidmetal parts as part of a turnkey solution.

The availability of the Liquidmetal injection-molding machine supplied by Engel indicates the readiness of Engel to utilize its worldwide network to provide ongoing service and spare parts procurement.

The system incorporates the latest advancements to produce high-quality Liquidmetal parts. This includes developments that aim to reduce consumable costs and increase maintainability while precisely controlling melt temperature, according to the company.

"Licensing our technology to partners in vertical markets, such as medical, aerospace, and sporting goods applications, promises to be of increasing importance to the company going forward," says Tom Steipp, Liquidmetal Technologies' president and CEO. "The readiness of the Liquidmetal injection-molding machine, which will be sold and supported by Engel, is an important step forward in our licensing strategy."
