Superalloy for 3D printing claimed to be defect resistant
Most very-high-strength alloys that function in extreme environments cannot be 3D printed because they crack. Now a team headed by researchers at the University of California Santa Barbara has developed a new class of superalloys that overcomes this cracking problem. The discovery holds tremendous promise for advancing the use of additive manufacturing to produce complex, one-off components for use in high-stress, high-performance environments.

Special Edition Jaguar F-TYPE Heritage is ode to 1961 E-Type
Enzo Ferrari reportedly called the Jaguar E-Type "the most beautiful car ever made" when it was first released back in 1961. Now Jaguar is trying to recapture some of that magic 60 years later with a special 567-hp V8 Supercharged F-TYPE two-seater called the Heritage 60 Edition. Only available in classic Sherwood Green, the run will be limited to just 60 units total in convertible or coupe styles.

Top Tech Tip: Mechanical bellows components are an alternative solution
In today's digital world, mechanical components such as metal bellows serve as an extremely reliable mechanism to gather information. The movement of Servometer electrodeposited metal bellows under hydraulic or pneumatic pressure (internal and external) can create the information needed for a system without electricity. Using bellows technology, temperature, gauge, barometric, and differential pressure can be compensated for. With miniature sizes available, Servometer bellows can be added to instrumentation and manifolds of almost any shape or size.

Image - Linear motors with flexible, modular design
Linear motors with flexible, modular design
Beckoff Automation's new AL8000 product family is based on a modular system design consisting of linear motors and magnetic plates. Users can choose between three widths: 50 mm (AL8x2x), 80 mm (AL8x4x), and 130 mm (AL8x6x). Each width category offers a broad range of different linear motor types in terms of overall length, type of winding, and cooling type. The standard product portfolio contains 28 different linear motor types for implementing highly dynamic and powerful linear axes to suit specific application requirements. Depending on the size of the linear motor, peak forces of 120 to 6,750 N can be achieved, as well as maximum speeds of up to 12 m/s.

9 unseen Porsche concept cars
Not every car design makes it to production, but there are some exciting ideas along the way. In that spirit, Porsche has released design studies of some of its coolest concepts that did not make the cut from 2005 to 2019. "It is not about bringing every car onto the road," said Michael Mauer, Vice President Style at Porsche. "It is more a question of establishing creative space and a relationship with the future."
