Alternative to welded bolts in cars: Adhesive-bonded inserts and clips
A new fastening method called ONSERT technology, developed by DELO and one of its partners, combines bonding and screwing. With ONSERT, fixing elements such as thread inserts or clips are bonded with special light-curing adhesives with extremely short curing times. ONSERTS combine the benefits of welded studs -- such as a high degree of automation, short cycle times, and high load-bearing capacity -- with the possibility of bonding on sheets of less than 0.5-mm thickness as well as on non-metallic lightweight materials. They also add to lightweighting efforts.
