Fishing lures try new spin on light, color
Fishermen, take note! That colorful fishing lure in the attractive packaging on the store shelf has little or no appeal to a fish in the water, especially as the lure sinks deeper and deeper down.

Lightning in a bottle:
Army engineers set phasers to 'fry'

Scientists and engineers at Picatinny Arsenal in New Jersey are busy developing a device that will shoot lightning bolts down laser beams to destroy its target. Soldiers and science fiction fans … you are welcome.

Industrial leak detection kit

Spectronics Corporation has introduced the OPK-341 Industrial Leak Detection Kit, an effective, efficient way to pinpoint the exact source of all fluid leaks in hydraulic equipment, compressors, engines, gearboxes, fuel, and other synthetic and petroleum-based industrial systems. At the core of the kit is the OPTIMAX 3000 – a cordless, rechargeable, super-powerful blue light LED inspection flashlight that is 15 times brighter than regular LED flashlights and has an inspection range up to 20 ft. Also included in the kit is a 16-oz, twin-neck bottle of patented OIL GLO 44 concentrated fluorescent oil dye, GLO-AWAY dye cleaner, smart AC and DC chargers, dye treatment tags, and fluorescence-enhancing glasses.

Weather-sealed reversing switch for commercial vehicles

Cole Hersee's rugged 95060-37 weather-sealed reversing switch for commercial vehicles is constructed with engineering thermoplastic and stands up to corrosion much better than older, metal models with similar functionality. This unit provides the same three-position functionality as similar on-vehicle models: reverse, off, and forward. It is available in 10A at 12V, 5A at 24V, 3A at 36V, or 2A at 48V. Two matching, double-bitted tumbler keys are supplied.

New 12-V and 24-V speed controls drive brushless DC gearmotors and motors

The new type ABL-3906C low-voltage brushless DC stock controls from Bodine Electric Company provide variable speed control for low-voltage BLDC (ECM) gearmotors and motors. The controls operate from a DC power supply or from a battery (12 VDC or 24 VDC, depending on the control model). They are ideal for portable or remote applications where connection to an AC line is not possible, such as mobile medical devices, solar-powered water circulators, thermal solar power generators, chemical injection pumps at oil wells, and automatic gate openers. Several motor speed control options and Smart Reverse technology are added benefits.

Watch scientists try to explain Higgs Boson
While most of us were chomping down hot dogs or watching 15-second fireworks displays during the Fourth of July, a bunch of scientists in Switzerland were announcing the discovery of the Higgs Boson particle (sort of), which most lazy journalists (and TV reporters) called "The God Particle," which annoyed all of those scientists even more. What's the fuss all about? Check out these six videos courtesy of IT World (this funny intro courtesy of IT World, too).
