Students invent leaf blower noise damper: Stanley Black & Decker onboard
The challenge before Johns Hopkins University engineering students: Take a leaf blower, but make it quiet. Make it work as powerfully as ever, but do not allow it to emit the ear-piercing caterwaul that has gotten leaf blowers banned in some communities and cursed in many others. Shocking their sponsors, their advisers, and even themselves a little, the students did it.

Air Force uses new process to make rocket engines
The Air Force Research Lab's Rocket Propulsion Division recently designed, printed, built, and hot-fired a first-ever, single-block rocket-engine thrust chamber additively manufactured using a new process called laser powder directed energy deposition (DED). Impressively, the printer's build box can accommodate 7-ft-tall parts.

What they didn't teach you about fittings in engineering school
Do you know why an old standard "Christmas-tree" barbed fitting may not be your best choice for your miniature fluid power application? Experts at Beswick Engineering run through the common types of fittings used in these smaller pneumatic applications, along with thread sizes and seals to help you make the correct choice. They also touch on pressure and temp ranges, chemical compatibility issues, rigid and flexible lines, and the ease of assembly and maintenance.

High-temp cabinet cooler keeps incineration process in business
An EXAIR client company handles waste treatment on a large ship by operating an incinerator. The area where the incinerator is located gets very hot (over 120° F). This causes failures in the electronics package used to control the incineration process. Since compressed air is readily available, EXAIR's Model HT4225 Cabinet Cooler System is being used to keep the panel cool. It saved the customer from having to replace their control units due to the hot conditions in the incinerator room. Thermostat control is also available, conserving air and operating only when needed to minimize air consumption.
Learn about EXAIR's huge selection of Cabinet Coolers.
